2nd July 2004 - Kay Carter, London
Hi there and just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Maison des Pecheurs. We didn’t realize we would be your first guests not to be friends or family (although I did notice that everything in the kitchen seemed to be brand new).
Your caretakers were lovely and did ask us if there were any helpful comments we could make about how things could be improved, but to be honest, it was really just what we wanted and nothing particular about the house springs to mind. The one thing we would have been interested to hear would have been recommendations for your favourite local restaurants, I don’t know if other guests would appreciate an “insider’s tip”. As it was we plumped for the “Domaine de l’Etape” (on the Bélâbre road) for our last dinner, and it was really lovely.
16th July - David & Stephanie Tilsey, Colne, Lancashire
Arrived on the 10th via Rouen & Amboise to rain and cloud. It is now 35 degrees: so things have improved somewhat! We are sat outside playing cards in the dying heat & throwing bread to the ducks- our last night. Been to St Benoilt du Sault today – a lovely place – would recommend a visit. Enjoyed Chauvigny yesterday, especially “Les Géants des Ciel”. Poitiers is worth the drive & a visit to Maison du Parc for the low-down on La Brenne National Park is also time well spent.
The highlight has been the house itself and its position on the river. We have spent lots of time sat by the windows watching the wild-life – my first kingfisher. Tomorrow, towards home, but first Orléans & a night in Calais.
Save any spare baguette for the ducks: but be prepared for full-blown naval war-fare!
29th July - Pete, July & Jordan Beirne, Preston, Lancashire
Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to France. Found Le Blanc a lovely town. The house itself couldn’t have been better with everything we could need. The views from the house are REALLY something. We have spent lots of time lazing in the garden in the sun and feeding the ducks. Leaving for Disneyland, Paris before home.
Thanks for a lovely holiday.
6th August - Louisa, Brian, Georgina and Jenna Redhills, Surrey
We have had a brilliant week, it was just what we wanted: fishing, canoe-ing, relaxing and generally taking it easy. DO hire a kayak or canoe: really fun & well-priced. We found the hire-shop just by the local out-door pool (on the road to Chateauroux) to be really friendly and helpful. We went to Futuroscope yesterday, which was very interesting, but don’t go if you are expecting high thrills & rides likes Alton Towers etc. It’s a purely visual (OK some seats do move a little!) extravanganza. Explore the area if you have time: check out the mediaeval town of Chauvigny & pretty Angles-sur-Anglin.
Well that’s probably enough from me. Thanks to Kate, Mark, Jill & Les for kind hospitality during our stay.
Now we are off to Champagne.
21st August - Kevin, Carolyn and Matt Wellbourn, Tickhill, Doncaster, Yorkshire
Thank you for a restful holiday in your lovely house. We arrived via Rouen, which is a lovely place full of history. While here we have explored some of the area: Angles-sur-Anglin & Bellebouche, we love walking and have walked one of the routes around Le Blanc. Had many BBQs in the garden & read lots of books.
Just what you need when you live a busy life in the UK. Going back a day early to explore Orléans. The ducks love baguette but were unsure of the bread we had left over from the UK. Xxx
1st September - Kirk and Kerri Scarbrough, Seatle, W.A., USA
A lovely home, the sound of the river at night was a delight. Lots & lots of walking in Le Parc. The Fromage de Chèvre (Pouligny St Pierre) is to die for - “a must have”
10th September - Anna Baxter and John Burnett, London
We’ve had a great time here. We also enjoyed walking in Le Parc _ look out for the plastic coated walking guides in Maison du Parc. Some lovely routes through forests and past lakes.
17th September - Brett and Emma Bodiam, Farnborough, Hampshire
We have had a fantastic stay in this lovely house. The views of the river are stunning and the house has all the items that we required during our stay. We have visited Maison du Parc, Bélâbre & Chateau Guillaume.
The opening times of the local restaurants are still a mystery to us and seem very random!!! Le Blanc is very pretty and picturesque. We have spent the majority of our time relaxing around the house and admiring the views. Heading back a day early to visit Disneyland, Paris.
25th September - Nick and Stephanie Minns, Stowmarket, Suffolk
A very relaxing week in a well-equipped and comfortable cottage. The river is at a low level at this time of the year but the wagtails, sand-pipers & king-fishers put on a good show most mornings.
We came here to see the birds of La Brenne in the Autumn: the best place to see them at the moment is Lake Gabrière with high numbers of egrets, and a good variety of wading birds on passage. We ate out at the “Créperie La Sarrasin” & at “Pizza Bella”: both of which were fine. Pizza Bella is very busy on Friday evenings – either arrive early or book.
